Review

The Umberto Pizza at Pizzeria Principe Umberto meets all of my basic expectations for a Neapolitan Pizza- huge outer crust, excellent mozzarella, cooked basil, and an ultra thin crust at the center of the pizza. This simple but delicious pizza is easily better than some of the more complicated pizza variants that include more toppings, or come in nontraditional pizza shapes. This particular pizzeria chose to use sliced normal tomatoes rather than cherry tomatoes, a minor difference. Cherry tomato pizzas are usually somewhat sweeter, but the best feature of this pizza, the buffalo mozzarella, is hardly affected by the choice of tomato. Pizzeria Principe Umberto, only a hundred paces from Piazza Garibaldi, is another good reason to venture away from Naples’ main train station if only just for one meal. On a scale of one to ten I give the toppings a 7 and the crust a 7
