Review

La Sorrentina is a pizzeria famous in Naples for its annual success at the Neapolitan Pizza Festival. Judged by discerning pizza chefs, there are a variety of categories from traditional Margherita to pizza crust design within the pizza competition. La Sorrentina is one of the pizzerias that has done very well over the past decade winning the title of best Neapolitan pizza in 2006.

After eating the ‘La Sorrentina’ pizza at the famed pizzeria I have come to conclusion that the pizzeria at the competition and the pizza on my plate must be several levels of quality apart from one another. My pizza was good, but was by no means in the upper echelon of pizzas I have tried so far. La Sorrentina does have standout crust, which had excellent volume in the outer ring of crust, a fresh doughy taste, and suitable char on the underside of the pizza. However the toppings were average; the cherry tomato and cheese toppings were just bland. The mozzarella was not especially creamy as you may expect an award winning pizzeria to serve, and the addition of provolone did not make for any real improvement either. On a scale of one to ten I give the toppings a 4 and the crust a 6.5
