Lemon on a Pizza? Nazionale pizzeria does not look like any particular source of great pizza innovation. The number of in-store gambling machines and the copious amounts of liquor on sale are usually indicative of greasy pizza, for whatever reasons. However Nazionale’s lemon and provolone pizza was an entirely new taste to me. I may have just overlooked the name elsewhere, but this is the first time I have seen this combination on a menu. It strikes me as odd to call a pizza refreshing, but that is exactly what this pizza is. The simple addition of the lemon juice from one whole lemon, on the cheese and crust, makes for a delicious pizza. This pizza tastes especially good during the humid Neapolitan month of August. My guess is, even if this pizza is not on a menu, a pizzaiolo should be able to generate one with little trouble. Lemons are everywhere in southern Italy, grown in just about every free plot of residential land to some extent, so ristorantes will usually have some on hand just for seafood or anti-pasta flavoring. On a scale of one to ten I give the toppings a 6.5 and the crust a 5
