Review

Culinary simplicity can generate good quality just as easily as it can produce mediocrity. Unfortunately this pizza falls into the latter category. La Bifora has a charming interior, the walls set with wooden antique picture frames depicting the fishing life around the peninsular villages of Bacoli and Baia. Interior seating is interspaced with antique cabinets that seemed to have survived the Mediterranean humidity surprisingly well. There is no menu here, just Margherita or Marinara pizzas along with whatever seafood pasta dish the chef is making on that particular day. The simple pizza choices reminds me of the famous downtown Neapolitan restaurant Da Michele’s, which has made Margherita pizza-making a fine culinary science, however the taste of La Bifora’s pizza does not remind me of Da Michele’s. The tomato sauce and the mozzarella were bland. The opportunity to display high-quality pizza dough ingredients was wasted and in general this is unsatisfying pizza. On a scale of one to ten I give the toppings a 3.5 and the crust a 3
