Review

Osteria del Mare Farinella is located just across the road from the excellent pizzeria IL Rudere. If pizzeria excellence can be propagated via osmosis than Farinella may have absorbed some of that latent high quality from its neighbor. Farinella, which is focused more on seafood pasta than pizza, serves good toppings and average crust. Farinella does not serve a pizza named after their restaurant, so I would advise going with one of their seafood pizzas. I ordered the salmon and arugula. The arugula was fresh, and the salmon was tender. I rate pizzas on the ‘whole’ pizza rather than one slice, and this pizza is a good example of why I hold my opinion to the end. In this case the ingredients were very good, but the base had excessive amounts of olive oil on it. The olive oil was of high quality, but after eating half the pizza I felt as if my stomach and mouth were coated in oil. Too much of the olive oil mutes the better taste of fresh fish and vegetables, rather than complimenting the toppings. Still, this is a good pizza and comes with a partial view of the bay of Naples. On a scale of one to ten I give the toppings a 6 and the crust a 4
