Review

There is no shortage of pizzerias in the main square of Florence, Piazza Del Duomo. I was impressed with my second pizza in Florence, which came with a partial view of the Majestic Duomo, and the regionally authentic thin crust pizza. Lo Scudo was open late in the afternoon, which usually means that for a touristy location, the pizza was going to be bad. Sometimes the risk is worth it though, and the pizza here was good, albeit very salty. Thin crust pizza is more typical of Northern Italy, and the Lo Scudo pizza was no exception. Thin strips of bacon, not crispy but chewy, covered the pizza along with two different kinds of mushrooms: truffles and porcini. The porcini mushrooms were delicious. The crust while thin, was not crispy…which is too bad since such salty toppings would have been better than the salty bread-taste I got instead. Still, a decent pizza, and an exceptionally good find given the location in the center of Florence (only two of the window tables get the good view though, so be tactical) the price, and superb porcini mushrooms. On a scale of one to ten I give the toppings a 5.5 and the crust a 5.5
